I’m preparing for an exhibit on maps that will open July, 2022 and have been going through many manuscripts in our collections with maps. This book is a sixteenth- century English translation of Sacrobosco’s De spherae. I am particularly taken with the people the illustrator has added to many of the images of the earth to indicate the human perspective of the cosmos. Was the illustrator imagining looking up at the heavens from earth, and perhaps curious about the perspective of other people on the other side of the big sphere?
